How to Prepare for a Newborn Photoshoot: A Comprehensive Guide

Preparing for a newborn photoshoot can seem overwhelming, but with the right preparation, you can ensure a smooth and successful session that captures the beauty and tenderness of your baby’s early days. Grab these tips!

1. Choose the Right Time

The ideal time for a newborn photoshoot is within the first two weeks of birth. During this period, babies are typically sleepier and more flexible, which helps in capturing those adorable, curled-up poses. - However, I'm happy to shoot it as long as it's within 28 days. For an in-home session, it's usually in the morning. For outdoors, it really depends on the season and your preference.

2.Prepare Your Home

If you’re having the photoshoot at home, create a cozy and clean environment. Choose a warm room with good natural light, as this will help keep your baby comfortable and ensure beautiful, soft photos. Remove any clutter and ensure the space is tidy, as it will be featured in the background of your photos.

3. Gather Essential Items

Prepare a few key items for the shoot:

  • Outfits: Have a selection of outfits ready for your baby, including onesies, blankets, and hats. Neutral colors and soft fabrics work well and keep the focus on your baby.
  • Props: The only props I use for a session is the bassinet and blankets. I'm happy to supply them if needed. Of course you're welcome to bring your own.
  • Feeding Supplies: Make sure you have bottles, breast pads, and any other feeding essentials within reach to keep your baby satisfied and content during the session.

4.Be Patient and Flexible

Newborn sessions often involve a lot of waiting and soothing. Be patient and flexible, as your baby may need breaks for feeding or changing. Allow plenty of time for these pauses, and don’t worry if the session takes longer than expected. That's why my newborn sessions are at least 60 minutes and totally led by the bubba.

5. Communicate with Your Photographer

Discuss any specific ideas or preferences you have with me beforehand. Share any details about your baby’s routine, favorite soothing techniques, or any special requests you may have. Clear communication ensures that your photographer can tailor the session to your needs and preferences.
